July 5, 2006

This past week, I was subpoenaed by the Llano Hospital Authority to testify in the trial being held in the Llano County Courthouse.

I was not allowed to sit in the Courtroom, but did have a small room on the Northwest corner of the Courthouse. The room was about 10 X 6, and had four chairs and a small table.

Sitting in a room with little to do but think watch the squirrels, was not a real high and best use of my time. I could have cleaned the air conditioning ducts had I had a ladder. Before noon, Llano County bailiff, Luke Rogers came and sent me to lunch. I returned about 1:15 PM, but brought a Texas football magazine.

The afternoon went better, and I was still not called to testify.

I showed up Friday, and went to my room. About 930 AM, Luke Rogers appeared and he had asked the Judge if I could wait at my office, two blocks away. That was OK. I was to stay next to the telephone in case Luke needed me to return. At 4:45PM I went back to the Courthouse, went to my room, and waited for about 30 minutes before the Judge called it a weekend, and to return Thursday, July 6th at 9 AM.

I do not get to know what other testimonies are. I spend time wondering what each said, and who else they have called to testify. In ways, I am confused about the process, and how this all fits together in helping the Judge determine if Llano County Commissioners, and the Llano Memorial Hospital Authority broke the law. I my mind, they did, and did so with malice. But the law is specific. I hope it applies here. Should the Hospital Board and the Commissioners be deemed to be within the law, I will never understand how they can look themselves in the mirror. If the law has been broken, I am sure they are prepared to pay the price.

I hope to testify Thursday. I can add very little to the part about the law. I think and hope I can add to the behavior of people with no vested interest in the health care of Llano County.
