September 15, 2003. First I must thank many people for the success of the second annual Hall of Fame Banquet this past Saturday night. Gina Schuessler is the do everything person we all have relied upon. While some time has been spent in calls to Gina while on school time, she needs to be thought about. Gina has spent several weekends this month, and many over the past year putting the pictures on the walls, arranging the trophies, and setting the furniture. Usually alone. The Comptroller’s Report found the Hall of Fame one of the few spectacular things done at LISD over the past few years. Many appreciate Gina’s yeoman’s work. Also, need to thank Shannon Kasper, Debbie Rabb, Diane Willmann, and Jerry Butler. These people always show up to help. Also, the next time you see Terry Hutto, Fuzzy Reagor, David Willmann, Marsha McNeeley, Jimmy Stephenson, Scott Wesner, or Diane Oatman, please let them know you appreciate their financial help with the banquet. It would not have happened without them. The Inductees this second year were Gail Hopson Smith, George Fraser, Linda Plant Franklin, Sherman Bauer, and Bill Farris. All so deserving. Their permanent plaques soon will be hanging in the O.Henry Building. Go by when you have time. Llano has had some mighty special people in its’ past. Another great thing this past weekend, and that was Llano’s Homecoming game. It has been years since I have seen so many people come to the game…any game for that matter. What a crowd! One last mention is that soon, committees will be formed to plan for the Third Annual Hall of Fame Banquet. If you would like to help, please call. We have plenty of openings. Also, being formed is a membership drive for raising money for the Hall of Fame. Some have thought the $20.00 for a ticket was too much, especially with children. Yet, the past two years, we have had two tickets for each of the “team” members that were recognized, as well as tickets for the inductees. Well over 150 tickets were not charged for. The rest was made up by your ticket price. Maybe if we had enough memberships, which we should, then next year we could charge just enough on the tickets to cover the meal cost. Anyone out there with thoughts and ideas on this, please come forward. Hear some grumbling about the Grant money on the Railroad Project. Seems that Fredericksburg received a similar grant from the same source, and they already are in operation. Llano has been waiting for approvals, and architects, and heaven knows what else. Still, not a blade turned over on those dirt streets where the new depot is to be. Hope we see some action soon. For all of you that have cared so much, and prayed so much, report to you is Tory is doing great after 11 ½ hour surgery last Friday. Doctors took nerves out of his right leg and placed them in his right shoulder and arm area. Movement and feeling were minimal. This operation may take 6 to 10 months to see if it works. But, he is doing great. After Friday, they had him walking the halls late Friday night, and he came home Sunday. Unbelievable to me. We are all blessed, and your prayers made it so. Tory and our whole family thank you. Many believe that the school board will make a settlement with “on leave” Jack
Patton before the September mediation hearing in about 10 days. Don’t bet
on that. This school board is worried enough about what Patton might say, but
they are betting Patton does not show up. Good bet he won’t. Patton does
not fear attorneys for LISD. The worry that may still linger is that a trial
date may soon be set on Patton’s felony indictments. Second, is the Attorney
General’s Office may be watching. They have not yet laid down their sword.
That would be a good bet. |
