August 24, 2003. Tabled at last weeks’ school board meeting was the decision to “rehire” LISD attorneys, Welsh & Anderson from San Antonio. Knowing there may be a need to have attorneys around that know the situation has merit. But, from my observation, having anyone around that was part of the big problem is more important as a part of this equation. From the public’s point of view, no one made it harder to find out information
than this law firm. No one protected the rights and privileges of the school
board members and the administration than this law firm. Only Superintendent
Jack Patton was more arrogant. No one questioned more the motives of the public’s
right to know than this law firm. No one could have known more information over
two years ago about what was really happening to our school than this law firm. This law firm should not be rewarded because they have not earned the right and trust for this contract to be renewed. They cannot be trusted to represent us all. And if there is a basic distrust of the law firm in your school district, they need to be moved out. This decision should be about trust. This school board needs to make this decision quick and fast. Today, Monday the 25th, report is that the jury selection process going
on in
Johnson City is “slow”. Expect that it may take a full day, plus
til noon tomorrow for a seated jury. The real action will be here soon. I may
report everyday here for a while. Check back tomorrow. |
